How To Install New Fonts On Windows

Recently I wrote a post about how to download beautiful designs fonts for free but now I will love to show you how to install new fonts that you have just downloaded or are about to download. There are many ways to do install new fonts on Windows 7.

Here are some step by step instructions on options on how to go about it, but remember you must be the administrator before you can install new fonts on Windows 7.

Different Options To Use To Install New Font On Windows 7

Option 1

This is the easiest, you locate the new fonts that you are about to install and double click on the file, and it will open the new fonts preview then select the install button and you are done. Or you can also right click on the file and click install.

Option 2

 This method is through your control panel, follow the steps below

• Select “control panel” from the start menu ==> select Appearance and personalization category. 

•   Select Font 
• Now drag the font you want to install into the control panel

 

Note: if you receive an error message make sure the font file is not compressed (it should not have a zipper icon). Also, make sure you have Administrator privileges (Control Panel/User Accounts). 

And if you are using something different from windows 7 such as XP or Vista the steps are below

Windows Vista

·         To install a TrueType or OpenType font on Windows Vista, right-click on the font file and then select 'Install'. You can also drag or paste a font into the Fonts Control Panel.

·         Note: In Windows Vista if you double-click on a font the 'Install' button is not available in the font preview. This is a new feature in Windows 7.

Windows XP

·         To add a new font to your computer:

·         1. From the 'Start' menu select 'Control Panel', then select the 'Appearance and Themes' category.

·         2. Select 'Fonts' from the 'See Also' panel at the left of this screen.

·         3. On the 'File' menu, select 'Install New Font...'

·         4. Click the drive and folder that contain the fonts you want to add.

·         5. To select more than one font to add, press and hold down the CTRL key, click the fonts you want, then click on 'OK'.
